Krypton Episode 5 ‘House of Zod’ Plot Summary:

House of Zod is essentially a part-two of last week’s episode that sees the main characters continually dealing with the situations they find themselves in. Lyta-Zod is facing death for the accusation of treason and her mother, Jayna, is facing the hardship of where her loyalties lie. Simultaneously, Seg-El is fighting for survival in the thick of Black Zero.

Coming off the best episode of the season, ‘House of Zod’ furthers the plot while maintaining the high level of quality that the previous episode exuded.

This Zod-centric episode is all about sacrifice. Every character has to come to grips with some kind of sacrifice, which, in turn, makes the episode rich with characterization and strengthens the dramatic tension. Jayna-Zod faces the hardest sacrifice as she has to decide between staying loyal to her family crest and Rao, or saving Lyta – meaning pledging her allegiance to the Vex family and giving up everything her family has stood for. We see this best explored through the usage of flashbacks to a young Jayna earning her place among her family.

Much like last week’s episode, every actor brings their A-game. Whether it is Georgina Campbell, Ann Ogbomo, Wallis Day, or Cameron Cuffe, every scene features quality acting. The entire cast does a solid job and raises the quality of the show tremendously.

One aspect that deserves to be mentioned is the score. There are a few different moments – one of them taking place in a courtroom- in which the score adds to the suspense and had me on the edge of my seat. The composer, Pinar Toprak, does a wonderful job as she has for the duration of the series so far.

‘House of Zod’ is another solid episode of television. It is well-paced, well-written, and is basically good in almost every category – including another jaw-dropping cliffhanger. What might be the most surprising part is the fact that this show has been doing an excellent job with very little impact by the villain. I can only imagine how the show will blossom when we finally do get to see more of the villain.

Rating: 9/10
