Spoilers from Issue #1 will be revealed in this review. If you’re not caught up please wait to read this review.
At the end of Issue #1 we found out all about the baddie that was stealing The Joker’s jobs. And, surprisingly discovered it was all just a way to get under Harley’s skin and to impress The Joker. The new villainess gave The Joker a huge gift of stolen goods. And, well, it worked. Grison is now a part of the team. Harley is livid, and the Joker is thrilled.
Issue #2 picks up with Harley having a therapy session…with herself. Dr. Harleen Quinzel arguing with her mother and Harley Quinn is quite a sight to see. It doesn’t last long though because it’s obviously a dream. She wakes up to The Joker and Grison in the middle of a heist. Apparently Harley spaced out so bad that she forgot she’s driving the getaway boat.
Just as she snaps back to reality Batman is in hot pursuit of them. Harley whips out a huge bazooka and fails to hit him. Grison takes off and claws at his bat-boat. Grison ends up saving the day for them. This leaves Joker very impressed. And, Harley is stuck listening to him praise Grison and demeaning her.
Back at the headquarters Joker does what he typically does after a certain point. He criticizes and abuses Harley mentally. Then he praises Grison and tells Harley she can’t work with them on the next heist. Grison has a plan to break into WayneTech. She wants to steal some special ray gun that can effect a person’s emotions for miles. The Joker likes the idea because he thinks it’d be great to see an entire city of people laugh themselves to death.
This causes Harley to slip into another therapy session with herself. This time Dr. Quinzel wants to talk about Harley’s relationship with Joker. Things get heated. The Joker has been a joke of a partner for the last 25 years. Of course he’s still as abusive and manipulative jerk in this tale too. The argument that Harley and Dr. Quinzel have is groundbreaking. But, does it actually do anything to help Harley?
I really like that the writers addressed just how awful Harley and Joker’s relationship is via therapy session. I legitimately yelled yes out loud while reading that part. And, of course this classic Harley story was all about her trying to make The Joker happy. Harley risks a lot for the Joker just to make him happy. What does he really do for her?
Harley is still angry at the Joker. Will she leave him to work with Grison? Or, will she show up at WayneTech anyway? Oh and there is still that matter of owing Jenna millions of dollars for remodeling that place. And, the whole thing that Batman was hot on their trails. Batman could be just around the corner. Pick up this issue for the exciting conclusion.
