Review: Transformers Optimus Prime #22

If the turmoil from last issue wasn’t enough, this is the issue which dumps all the negativity and tragedy onto Optimus Prime.

The series largely focused on what made Optimus Prime, “a Prime” while attempting to send our leader on some sort of spiritual journey to discover his true meaning. It’s hard to do so when you finally learn your title and history has been one big ball of lying manipulation by a bitter and vindictive former Senator-turned-Decepticon.

It has been a tangled and intricate web which Tarantulas would have been proud off. We learn about some ancient factions which came under the spell of a really big bad, as well as our typical turncoat Starscream who resorts to sophisticated schemes.

This is also the issue which is a good read alongside Unicron #1. We get some pauses and flash-forwards with Unicron #0 and #1 referenced throughout the issue. It does piece together what we missed earlier. Makes the story a bit choppy, but easy enough to follow.

If this is how it’s going to end, it’s going to end in glorious fashion.

Optimus Prime #22 earns a 7 out of 10.

Optimus Prime #22 is now available at comic book retailers everywhere.
