NWA Powerrr Episode 14 begins with a quick recap showing us Ricky Morton’s challenge to NWA World Heavyweight Champion, Nick Aldis, and the champ’s counteroffer: They each pick three wrestlers and, should Team Morton beat Team Aldis, Ricky gets a title shot.
David Marquez has the Rock n’ Roll Express at the podium. Ricky Morton says that Nick Aldis and the rest of the field forget sometimes that they helped build the NWA and pave the way for them. Marquez asks them who will be on the team that will face Aldis’ Strictly Business partners, Wild Card, and the hired gun, Scott Steiner. Robert Gibson says that he prefers to have Aldis sweat it out and wonder.
The brackets of the NWA Television Title Tournament (to be held on the NWA “Hard Times” PPV) are revealed. Block A will see Tim Storm take on the winner of tonight’s Dawson vs Dawson match. Ricky Starks will face and “open slot” that will hold a “to be named later” competitor from outside the NWA. Block B will see “Outlandish” Zickey Dice across from an open slot and The Question Mark facing the winner of next week’s Trevor Murdoch vs Thom Latimer match.
David Marquez has Zickey Dice and Ricky Starks for a word about the tourney. Zickey Dice asks what Ricky has ever done. Ricky tells “broke ass Guy Fieri” that he’s done plenty… including his mother!
Dave Dawson vs Zane Dawson in a TV Title Tournament qualifier
Basic but classic brawling in this one. Dave Dawson gets the better of Zane for a bit but Zane battles back. Dave is able to see that Zane isn’t using his bandaged right hand and begins targeting it. It causes immense pain but a straight right gets Zane the KO and a cover to win.
Winner and entered into the tournament: Zane Dawson
Ashley Vox vs Melina
Melina uses size and experience to work on Ahsley Vox, especially focusing on the neck. Ashley has a few big impact moves countered but nearly has Melina hooked with the Real Catch. She can’t sink it all the way in, though and Melina hits that split-legged guillotine drop for the 1-2-3.
Winner: Melina
Melina is with **** ***** after the match and calls out NWA Women’s Champion, Allysin Kay. Kay comes out from the back and Melina tells her to be ready for a title match next week. Allysin says that she’s ready right now but Melina will take the time to recuperate.
Nick Aldis is backstage and incognito t Ring of Honor’s show in Atlanta this past Saturday. He says that, if Marty Scurll wants to interrupt NWA Powerrr and PPVs, he’ll do the same when Marty comes to “his town.” He blindsides Flip Gordon and addresses the crowd before security make him leave the premises. Flip makes sure to challenge him on his way out, though. These two will meet in action at Hard Times!
The Pope is with David Marquez and Outlaw Inc at the podium. Pope tells Dave that he’s not there to “manage” anyone. He will, however, advise and aid his fellow wrestlers when he deems necessary. He saw Eli Drake and James Storm earn a title shot last week without a pinfall. He figures that Outlaw Inc deserve a match tonight help them ascend the ladder. Marquez notices the KT tape on Homicide’s shoulder and asks if he’s medically cleared to compete. Homicide says that he’s good and Eddie Kingston steps in to say that the paperwork got lost in the shuffle.
Outlaw Inc vs The Question Mark & Aron “Shooter” Stevens
Eddie Kingston tries to disrespect the Mongrovian flag but settles for beating up on Aron Stevens for a bit. Homicide does the same until he misses an elbow shot in the corner and Stevens attacks the injured shoulder with vigor. The Shooter takes multiple opportunities to knock Kingston off the apron as well. When Kingston has had enough, he rushes Stevens and referee, Robert King (or “idiot” as Stu Bennett refers to him,) has trouble keeping control. Question Mark gets involved and lays Kingston out with a Mongrovian Spike! Homicide tries to get Stevens into the Gringo Killer but the shoulder can’t make it happen. Mongrovian Spike to Homicide and Stevens covers for the win. Pope comes in to take a look at his prospects but, with homicide still writhing in pain, he walks off.
Winners: Aron Stevens & Question Mark
Nick Aldis, Strictly Business, and Scott Steiner are with David Marquez. Big Poppa Pump says that he knew that Aldis would be a world champion the first time he saw him. He then offers to beat some people up for the champ (including a few in the stands that earn themselves some “bleeps.”) Scott’s brought along the old NWA tag title belt from when Ted Turner changed them over to WCW as a reminder to the Rock n’ Roll Express how much has changed.
Team Aldis (Wild Card & Scott Steiner) vs Team Morton (Robert Gibson, Eli Drake, & Tim Storm)
The bulk of this match was carried by Eli Drake and Royce Isaacs, both of whom probably had ring time greater than their teammates combined. They even accounted for the finish when the schmoz at the end saw Robert Gibson and Royce Isaacs in there alone and Eli hit Isaacs with a sit-down stunner so Gibson could roll him up. Ricky Morton gets a shot at sweet Charlotte next week on NWA Powerrr!
Winners: Team Morton!
