As it has been said many times before and will undoubtedly be said many times to come, 2020 sucked. However, we’re finally getting close to the end of this mostly abysmal year and, a hopefully brighter and better year appears on the horizon, so it’s time to look past the bad and acknowledge the good that this year brought – specifically with media.

Although many people have been stuck at home, there have still been plenty of excellent movies, tv shows, and video games that have offered some levity during these trying times. Today, we’re here to specifically delve into the Five Best Animated Series of the year across different streaming services and cable – if you’re still into that. From animated reboots and returns of classics back from the dead to new seasons and original series that have begun to rally fanbases of their own, there’s a lot of great things to unpack with all of the animated delights that came this year.

Before we get to that though, it’s worth noting a few things. First and foremost, these are just my five favorites, so don’t give me too much hate if I missed out on a favorite of yours. Definitely let me know about it in the comments and give shoutouts to your faves that weren’t mentioned here. Secondly, there are definitely some favorites of mine that didn’t make the cut here but are totally worth giving a nod to. Before it lost all of its shows to HBO Max, DC Universe delivered an animated Harley Quinn series (Harley Quinn, which can now be streamed on HBO Max) like no other. It was gruesome and grotesquely hilarious, as the iconic DC villain struck out on her own to take over Gotham. HBO Max also delivered an excellent animated series of their own with JG Quintel’s Close Enough, which delved into the strange times of being young parents with the kind of weird world and humor he brought to Regular Show. Lastly, who could forget CBS All-Access’ Star Trek: Lower Decks as it delivered good laughs and great characters while exploring what the lesser knowns of a U.S.S. are up to?

Now, with all of that out of the way, let’s take a trek through the five best animated series that this year has had to offer.
