Pop Break Live: Rainbow Kitten Surprise “Bones Tour” at The Met in Philadelphia, PA on March 14, 2026
North Carolina based band Rainbow Kitten Surprise played to a sold-out crowd at The Met in Philadelphia on March 14.
The band formed in 2013 and is currently touring in support of their 10-song album Bones, released on 9/26/25. It was a quick followup to their 2024 album Love Hate Music Box. Their newest release has been met with a lot of positive reviews. They are no strangers to this area. Singer Ela Melo name dropped the legendary Philadelphia venue Johnny Brenda’s at the beginning of the set. They performed there early on in their career in 2016.
Over the course of the night, Rainbow Kitten Surprise put on a monumental, spellbinding performance, playing new songs, fan favorites and their hits. They opened their explosive set with “Hell Nah,” one of the many gems off their newest release that would be played during the night. It was a great pick to start the show. The audience not only sang along with that one but pretty much did the same for the rest of the 23 songs played. I was not surprised at all as the band has so many songs with catchy hooks and relatable lyrics. Melo is a phenomenal writer and truly in a league of her own. They played the uplifting, high-energy song “Dang” early in the set and it pretty much set the tone for the rest of the evening.
The fans’ enthusiasm was really fun to watch as they sang along and danced the night away. It may sound corny but the vibe at the Met felt joyous. Their camaraderie really shone. Vocalist Ela Melo’s distinct emotive voice and genuine charisma was a true force during the night. She’s also quite the dancer. I can’t say enough about the rest of the band. The band’s prowess, chemistry and showmanship shone during the entire set. Their harmonies with Melo during the night were breathtaking at times. The lighting was stunning and adapted to the songs being played. The acoustic songs they played together were a big hit with the audience, especially “First Class.” The audience happily obliged and loudly screamed the F’k up line in that song at the top of their lungs. Two other songs that really got the crowd going was ‘When It Lands” and “Fever Pitch”. Both songs have a great groove and a slow pace that midway bust into a rap.
Other memorable songs that stood out were “100 Summers,” “Good Night Chicago,” “Cocaine Jesus,” “Painkillers,” and “Murder.” They encored with “Tropics” and “It’s Called:Freefall.” The band put on a stellar show. There is no doubt that these fans will have great memories of this unforgettable performance in Philadelphia.
