Jack Johnson’s SURFILMUSIC Tour Delivers a Memorable Father’s Day Moment at PNC Bank Arts Center

Pop Break Live: Jack Johnson ‘SurFilMusic Tour’ at The PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, New Jersey on Sunday June 21, 2026

When you think of the perfect summer night, you might picture beautiful weather, comforting music, and a few like-minded people around you. That dream scenario became a reality last Sunday as thousands flocked to PNC Bank Arts Center to experience the laid-back sounds of Jack Johnson on the summer solstice.

Johnson is currently on tour in support of his new documentary, *Jack Johnson: SURFILMUSIC*, which traces his journey from surfer to filmmaker to world-renowned musician. Both the film’s soundtrack and the tour’s setlist give Johnson the opportunity to revisit the music that helped launch his career. The first half of the show featured songs from his first two albums, including “Wasting Time,” “Flake,” “Fortunate Fool,” and “Holes to Heaven,” performed with the support of his full band.

Midway through the set, the audience was treated to one of the evening’s most memorable moments. Johnson welcomed opening act Hermanos Gutiérrez to the stage for their new collaboration, “Hold On To The Light,” before transitioning into a live scoring of his surf film The September Sessions. The musicians improvised between songs such as “Drink the Water,” “Symbol in My Driveway,” and “F-Stop Blues,” creating a unique blend of concert and film experience. After the jam session, Johnson thanked Hermanos Gutiérrez and his band before shifting gears for a more intimate acoustic set, during which he began taking requests from the audience.

Jack Johnson Reflects on the Surfing, Friendships & Music that Shaped his Career

Johnson has played the Holmdel amphitheater many times over the years, but this performance felt different. Not only did it fall on the longest day of the year, but it also coincided with Father’s Day. To mark the occasion, Johnson did something he had never done before: he invited his son, Moe, to join him onstage for their first-ever live performance together, a heartfelt rendition of Jimmy Buffett’s “A Pirate Looks at Forty.”

Following the emotional duet, Johnson shared a story about writing silly songs with Moe, an experience that inspired his hit “If I Had Eyes.” An intimate acoustic set in a sold-out amphitheater might seem like an unlikely combination, but at a Jack Johnson concert, it felt perfectly at home.
