bill bodkin and logan j. fowler go into deep space…
Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Theater. Despite ho-hum reviews for the return of director Ridley Scott to science fiction, Prometheus is a film I will solely base on my own judgment when I finally get to see it. While it was kind of off the radar for me when the news of the movie released, a teaser in front of The Avengers got me to pay attention. Stated by some to be a loose tie to the 1979 film Alien (directed by Scott, who is saying it’s not a prequel), the movie focuses on a group of explorers who travel to mysterious areas of the universe to learn about the origins of the human race. The movie, for lack of a better term, looks interesting, and is the kind of movie that will have people thinking and questioning, maybe not just the connection to Ridley’s other space epic, but just having queries on the movie by itself and what was going on. With that being said, Prometheus looks to excite, to terrify, to make you think, and in a season where movies mostly have you check your brain at the door, films like Prometheus are scant. All in all, I think the movie is going to surprise and make the audience walk out the door throwing theories out here and there. I want to be a part of that atmosphere, so I’ll be checking out Prometheus for sure. –LJF
Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Theater. Prometheus is one of the most intriguing films of the year. Outside of the trailers, I have been insulating myself from any press about this film because I want to go into this film completely unprepared and be taken for a wild ride. The film looks like an absolute mind melting piece of awesomeness and I just can’t wait to have my jaw ajar during the whole thing. The trailers have done an excellent job building this overwhelming sense of drama, horror and mystery — all without revealing too much about the film. Prometheus reminds me a lot of Inception — not in plot or even cast (despite both boasting major league ensembles), but in terms of mystique and aura. I have no idea what’s going on in this film, no clue where it’s going to take me and that really is an exciting feel these days. Sign me up for the ride. –BB
