A new WWE Champion.
A surprising squash.
A snooze-fest.
A streak… ENDED.
Let’s get right to it. The Undertaker lost to Brock Lesnar. The Streak is over. The stunned silence rang louder than the bell. With a third and final F5, Lesnar did what no others could do, ending the Streak, and based on the reaction from the announce team, may have also ended the career of the Deadman.
The entrance was pretty cool, 22 caskets lined up with each WrestleMania number and its defeated opponent. Then ‘Taker went and blew up #22. The match overall was pretty slow and lackluster, Brock hit two of the ugliest consecutive German Suplexes I have ever seen, but not his fault at all, he did not want to break the old man in half. Undertaker looked OLD. If the match was a classic, then maybe I would have been a bit more understanding of the outcome. The truth is, after thinking about it, I am fine with and so should everyone. The Undertaker is old. The gimmick is old. It is time to retire. Obviously Brock Lesnar was not the first choice to be the man to do it, but this whom Undertaker gave his blessing to and we should respect that. We do not have to like it, but we should have respect for The Undertaker and his long career.
Daniel Bryan finally did it. After being beaten to hell by Triple H, then demolished through the announce table with a Batista Bomb/RKO combo, then again by Triple H, the Yes-Man of WWE overcame all odds and forced Batista to tap out while a helpless Randy Orton watched from ringside as his championship reign came to an end. Although there were moments where Batista had the match in hand, you just knew Daniel Bryan would come back to win. He had to, this was the moment, the right time, the right place. Hopefully the momentum will continue onwards.
Alright, in my defense, I could not predict the winner of the Andre Memorial because he was an unannounced entrant. Antonio Cesaro, made like Hulk Hogan by scooping up the Big Show, rather than slamming him, carried him up and over, throwing him over the top rope and winning the Andre the Giant Memorial Trophy. In a nice post-match nod, Big Show shook Cesaro’s hand. That is huge. Earlier on the pre-show, Swagger once again blamed Cesaro for the loss and attacked him. Cesaro ditched and now it is clear he moves onwards and upwards.
Fandango eliminating Big E. Langston? Lame.
The Shield trounced Kane and the New Age Outlaws. I mean, total squash match. Shield dominated 99.99% of the match. I think Road Dogg got a punch in. Lasted all of five minutes.
The Divas battle royal was exactly what we all thought. Everyone hits their moves, except for Eva Marie whose finishing move is a shove. Yes, a shove. AJ forced Naomi to tap to the Black Widow submission.
John Cena defeated Bray Wyatt, but he did not look like the winner after this one. Wyatt looked strong, damn good in the ring and made us all believe Cena could have lost. Fantastic match which went a long time and the constant back-and-forth kept us guessing. I feel the loss will not affect the Wyatt Family at all, but as for Cena… What is next for him?
The Usos retained the WWE Tag Team Championships on the pre-show, and the Real Americans are done. Great opening match, glad to see it was elimination as Ryback/Axel were worthless and Los Matadores were good for their high flying spots and nothing more than that. Usos are running out of challengers though with all these teams splitting up. Perhaps Erick Rowan and Luke Harper may be next to challenge?
The HHH/Bryan match opened the show and stole the show. Triple H still has it and proved it. Damn, he tossed Bryan with a double-underhook Suplex. William Regal must have trained Triple H personally. Bryan came back with some German suplexes of his own. Pedigrees, Yes-Locks, signature moves aplenty. The end came with Bryan scored with the Running Knee and clobbered The Game. Stephanie is always great to be seen at ringside. So evil, she is.
The show opener was fun, as Hulk Hogan flubbed all his lines, forgot what arena he was in, thought he was still in the WWF and at WrestleMania 3. “Stone Cold” Steve Austin and The Rock joined in and made fun of him for it throughout the segment. Catchphrases, laughs, and fun stuff to open WrestleMania 30. Funny backstage segments with Hacksaw Jim Duggan, Sgt. Slaughter, Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat, “The Million Dollar Man” Ted Dibiase, and of course, Ron Simmons.
Nice segment conducted by Mean Gene Okerlund with Hulk Hogan and Mr. T. facing off with Roddy Piper and Paul Orndorff over WrestleMania 1.
Now, what happens next? Daniel Bryan is finally the champ, but for how long? Who will Triple H throw in his way now? Randy Orton was not pinned, so his rematch might be sooner than we think. Will Brock Lesnar get a title shot? Antonio Cesaro will likely face off against Jack Swagger in a short feud and then move on towards the WWE Championship.
Will CM Punk ever come back? No. Get over it.
