Plot: Jax (Charlie Hunnam) and August Marks (Billy Brown) settle their scores once and for all, and when a SAMCRO member is killed, Gemma (Katey Sagal) is wracked with guilt.
There’s really no telling what to expect anymore on any given Sons of Anarchy episode, except a few things. Someone will die or get close to dying, someone will inch closer to the season’s biggest secret – the circumstances surrounding Tara’s (Maggie Siff) murder – and no one will be happy.
You’d be surprised how many variations there could be on these three central ideas.
Wendy (Drea de Matteo) continues to worry about Abel (Ryder and Evan Londo) and questions Jax’s decision to let him skip a day of school. Jax says, “He’s five years old. He shouldn’t be frustrated. I want him with me today.” Like father like son may not be the best approach here, Jax. Abel questions whether someone else died – can we really blame him?
Jax wants August to think he has leverage against SAMCRO, so he asks the pastor’s son for access to the sex phone video of his father. Though he tries to run away, the group tracks him down and berates him. August and Jax meet, but August will need more than the video – he wants the pastor’s body and the pastor’s son to show up at the meeting, all to keep Bobby (Mark Boone Junior) alive.
In a shocking moment, August kills Bobby right in front of Jax in response to SAMCRO’s retaliation against the Chinese. R.I.P., Bobby, though his days were numbered considering the last few episodes. SAMCRO later gets August arrested after some body digging.
Meanwhile, Unser (Dayton Callie) gives Gemma a heads up Jarry (Annabeth Gish) is going to question her about identifying the man responsible for Tara’s murder. The two end up starting a brawl in Jarry’s office after Gemma brings up Chibs (Tommy Flanagan) and that she can’t play both sides. Jarry calls her “white trash,” while Gemma makes a threat to “shoot her in the throat.” Jarry probably shouldn’t mess with her – basically Gemma is responsible for this entire season’s body count.
Too bad her story won’t hold up, because Jarry said the man Gemma and Juice (Theo Rossi) said killed Tara was in another state the night it happened. Uh oh…I mean, thank goodness, actually.
Later, Jarry wants Chibs to admit his feelings for her and the two end up having sex on top of her cop car. I guess that’s sweet.
In other news, Juice gets sent to solitary as the plan to kill Lin (Kenneth Choi) falls through when Juice’s deal goes out the window come Jarry’s news. Rat (Niko Nicotera) tells Brooke (Hayley McFarland) he loves her, but that it’s hard to be in love with someone and be in SAMCRO at the same time, which is perhaps the most self-aware statement any character could ever say. The club’s ties are as thick as blood, and loving someone certainly complicates the love for the club.
Also, Abel sees Gemma apologizing to Bobby. She says, “I couldn’t see all this.” Because that’s an excuse. Mark my words, Abel is going to be the one to tell everyone the truth. Let’s just hope he’s taken seriously.
