logan j. fowler and bill bodkin discuss the trailer for the never-ending Fast & Furious saga — and celebrate Pop-Break’s 400th post …
Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? No Thanks.
I must give credit to this franchise. People still are interested in two guys racing around like they are playing Need For Speed in real life. And clearly, Diesel and Walker returning for Part 4 brought in the crowds, which most likely made Part 5 see the light of day. However, I can’t see myself sitting down with this movie. I have no interest in the actors, although I am glad The Rock is returning to action flicks, after kicking so much ass in The Rundown then settling for kiddie fare. Yeah, I like fast cars, and cool car sequences (the scene at the end of Death Proof is nothing short of awesome), but I’m just not digging this series. Some mindless fun might suit for a lot of people, and it does for me most of the time, but consider me not interested in this new installment.

Color me shocked on this one because I have never, ever had any interest in seeing any of the Fast And Furious films. I get the appeal — fast cars, big actions, appealing to the crowds who go to car shows, subscribe to Dub Magazine and love spending their free time and money hooking their cars up. With Fast Five, the series has thrown a wrench into the storyline that has always appealed to me: the heist. The whole plot revolves around Walker and Diesel’s character pulling off a huge heist in South America while The Rock is hot in pursuit. To me, it sounds like pure escapist fun that doesn’t require me watching any of the previous Fast films to understand the series’ history. A definite Redbox or Netflix.
