Written by Logan J. Fowler, Matthew Nando Kelly
Release Date: May 15, 2015
Starring: Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult
Director: George Miller (Mad Max series)
Pre-Trailer Thoughts: Mel Gibson gets swapped for Tom Hardy. Definitely could be an upgrade. Also the guy who was behind the original Mad Max films is back, so that should probably keep the fans a little bit at bay. -LJF
Pre Trailer Thoughts: I, like many of you, have never seen a Mad Max movie. They are ever so slightly before my time. Hopefully, they are good. All I know abut them is that Stan has a fake Road Warrior poster in his room, Mel Gibson was in this pre-breakdown, and Tina Turner sang the song for Thunderdome (which I believe is the sequel). This should be fun. -MK
Rate the Trailer: Four out of five. Having never seen a Mad Max film, I don’t really know what the tone is. Is it a straight up action film? Is it of a satire of all these dystopian films? The only reason I ask is that the trailer looks marvelous, visually stunning, and fun, but the classical music undercutting it makes it seem like its not trying to be too too serious. On the other hand, I don’t know what other music would fit the trailer so well, so that’s a plus. In either case, what I saw looks like a blast, and I’m digging the cast for sure. -LJF
Rate the Trailer: Five out of five. Can I see this movie now? Holy hell this looks great. The visuals are stunning. The CGI is just the right amount of unbelievable shots mixed with practical effects. The landscapes are gorgeous. The cars look perfect. Each one, like the Orcs from the good LoTR films, has so much imperfection and personality. Tom Hardy looks fine. Charlize Theron looks excellent. And all from the guy who brought us Babe: Pig in the City. Sign me up. -MK
Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Rent. There’s no way I’ll be able to do a binge watch of the MM films before this, but will I really need to? I’m sure nods will be given to the older parts of the franchise so that’s why I’m unsure. However, this does look like I don’t need much homework done before going in. I’m curious about Fury Road, so it’s a definite rental. Should be fun. -LJF
Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Theater. No doubt about it. Besides, I am going to need to see something great after seeing Age of Ultron thirty times in May.-MK
