The Philistines look to overthrow the Hebrew hold on the city of Shiloh. The people of Shiloh, however, remain confident in their safety because they possess the most deadly weapon, The Ark of the Covenant.
Reading The Covenant #1 strongly reminded me of CCD. We would watch VeggieTales reconstructions of religious moments in history or read watered down picture books describing these holy events. They were expository, simple, and boring. Following in the footsteps of my seven year old self, I call bullshit.
The Covenant read like religious propaganda and most of the comic was dedicated to explaining the history of the Ark of the Covenant, as well as giving short bios of our main players. The Ark of the Covenant, as with most religious events, is commonly used fodder for mainstream entertainment.
The Covenant, however, simply told us the well known and well worn history without adding any actual story. There was no pizzaz or razzle dazzle and it was sorely needed.
