1. Phil Coulson

Another Marvel character that started from humble beginnings and quickly became a fan favorite. Clark Gregg’s first portrayal of Agent Coulson in Iron-Man put a human face on the S.H.I.E.L.D. organization that would eventually hold the Marvel Universe together. Ever since then, Coulson has been in almost every Marvel movie in one way or another until his death brought the Avengers together in order to stop Loki’s invasion of New York City.

In fact, he’s so popular that his death wasn’t enough to keep him down and they resurrected his character in the popular Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. television series. In my opinion, Coulson’s ordinary beginnings make him the best movie breakout character of all time. As Coulson would say, Tahiti truly is a magical place.
