9. Jay and Silent Bob
The dynamic stoner duo started out as bit characters that were created as an excuse for Kevin Smith and his friend Jason Mewes to act in movies more than anything else. Their modern day twist on the Abbot and Costello routine quickly won them many die-hard fans. This fact was unknown to Kevin Smith until he watched his movie Mallrats with a public audience in the theater and noticed people cheering for them more than the main characters. This eventually led to Smith creating Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back as a way for him and Jason Mewes to finally be the stars of their own movie.
