Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Theater. To me, it’s been a lackluster summer movie season, and that needs to change; I’m hoping Pacific Rim is that change. I haven’t been paying huge attention to the buzz for this movie, but to me, that’s a good thing. No hype machine is going to taint my vision for this, or build me up for disappointment. Featuring three of my favorite people in the world – Idris Elba, Ron Perlman, and Charlie Day, the movie could’ve just promoted these actors and I probably would’ve been there. But giant monsters vs. giant robots? Sounds like director Guillmero Del Toro (Hellboy, Pan’s Labyrinth) understands my geeky kid at heart nature completely. I can’t wait! –LJF
Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Theater.People have asked me — why would you want to see Pacific Rim? It’s usually asked with an air of disgust. I usually answer, “It’s monsters vs. robots … and I’m guy so … IT SOUNDS AWESOME.” And that answer usually comes with an air of unending childlike exuberance.
On a professional level — it’s got everything I could want from a Hollywood summer blockbuster — it’s directed by one of my all-time favorites (Del Toro), it’s got a tremendous cast, the effects look amazing and the story is really intriguing. Everytime I watch the trailer for Pacific Rim I get chills from the heroic speeches, I look in awe of the epic fight sequences. But honestly my inner child cannot help but burst through my critical seems — IT’S MONSTERS VERSUS ROBOTS!!! –BB
