Notable Openings This Weekend: Transformers: Age of Extinction
I can complain, I can kvetch, I can hem and haw all I want, but the Transformers are coming, and there’s nothing I can do to stop it. It’s been three years since our last visit with the Autobots, and I wish it could be three more. Sigh. No matter how hard I try to will these movies out of existence, you can’t keep a bad Michael Bay down. Well, let’s get this over with, and predict how much obscene money Transformers: Age of Extinction is going to crap out.
Despite everyone in the world complaining about how terrible and awful Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen was, the third installment came roaring back two years later and made even more money. I don’t get it. I really don’t. That second Transformers movie was the Batman & Robin of the franchise, yet it didn’t matter. Transformers has found a nice little niche of “We expect them to be dumb, so it’s okay.” Michael Bay has made an entire career out of that sentiment.
Not many people were crazy about the third film either, Dark of the Moon, but it was better than the previous entry, so I can only imagine how much money this latest one will bring in. Add in the fact that the hated Shia LaBeouf is gone, and Mark Wahlberg is in. That should generate more ticket sales as well. Not only that, but there is literally no competition this weekend. The big hold over from last week is Think Like a Man Too. Are you kidding me? This whole weekend was gift wrapped for Optimus Prime and his annoying friends.
How Will It All Break Down…
Transformers makes a shit load of money, alright. Leave me alone!
