Pop-Ed: Our Favorite Friends Moments

Bill Bodkin: I wasn’t a Friends fan during its initial run. Maybe it’s because my parents were more traditional when it came to television and didn’t like shows with a younger cast. Or maybe it was because at my college paper half the staff would stop work, while we were on deadline, to go watch the show. Whatever the reason I never got into Friends during its prime.

However, over the last decade I’ve caught up with and enjoyed the series in syndication. My favorite character on the series? The neurotic and sarcastic Chandler Bing. Chandler was a well-needed dose of snark and reality, especially when the series would focus on Ross (David Schwimmer) and his incessant whining. God, that character was severely annoying. Chandler’s quips were hilarious, but it wasn’t his only character trait. Chandler was a bumbling fool in the presence of a beautiful woman. He was also an emotional, sincere and lovable character during the show’s latter run particularly when he and Monica were trying to adopt.

However, it was his bromance with Joey that was the highlight of the series for me. These two had the most sincere, fun, and emotional relationship. The two had goofy adventures and real moments of heartache and heartbreak. Watching these two have a fall-out was worse than any Ross and Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) break-up. In an alternate reality Chandler and Ross would’ve been a great couple. Probably my favorite Joey and Chandler moment was when they adopted a duck. It’s a silly sitcom gimmick but these two guys just make it so fun that you can’t help but love it.
