Plot: Jax (Charlie Hunnam) and the MC reunite with Venus (Walton Goggins) to get intel on a preacher’s wife to help August (Billy Brown). Meanwhile, the Chinese retaliate leaving SAMCRO stunned.
The blood is pouring like wine again on Sons of Anarchy. I seriously question how many characters will actually be left standing by series’ end.
An un-made-up Courtney Love makes her debut as Abel’s (Ryder and Evan Londo) preschool teacher and gets an earful of Gemma (Katey Sagal) mouthing off to another student’s mother. Something tells me these two are going to clash soon.
Kim Dickens returns as Colette Jane, the madam, and asks about Jax, which leads to an awkward exchange between Gemma and Jax regarding “mommy fetishes.” This IS Hamlet. “First of all, if I had some mommy fetish I’d be hooking up with some crazy dominatrix.” Jax, she is your mother. Let’s move on.
Gemma talks to herself/Tara’s (Maggie Siff) ghost in the car. “Maybe Thomas will be a doctor like you…Abel is his daddy’s son,” she says. Is Gemma right? I wonder if we’ll get a flash-forward to see if that’s true, because it’s definitely plausible.
Remember that preacher SAMCRO killed a few episodes back? Jax and the rest of the MC need him to sign a document for August to build on church property, so they have to find his wife who can sign on his place. “It’s a small world after all,” Tig (Kim Coates) says.
After digging up his phone, the MC finds sex videos with no one other than Venus, who Tig has happened to stay in touch with. I’ve loved this awkward, slow-building will-they-won’t-they between these two. It adds some much-needed humor to all the darkness this show has looming.
Venus leads the group to a lake house to find the wife, where Tig gets shot by accident. He and Venus share a kiss later – it’s unclear if it’s because of his delirium.
Meanwhile, Nero (Jimmy Smits) is mad at Gemma for letting Jax beat up that man from the end of last week’s episode, warning her Jax’s quest for revenge will start to become just for pleasure. And he’s right.
“Remember when our biggest problem was which Mayan to kill?” Bobby (Mark Boone Junior) asks during the episode. Those were the days.
Later, Juice (Theo Rossi) appears paranoid at the thought of being alone. “I’m not good on my own. My head gets so loud,” he says. Is he schizophrenic? Whatever the case, he clearly should not be left alone.
By episode’s end, one cop is dead with the other in critical condition, leaving Sheriff Jarry (Annabeth Gish) at a loss. She meets the MC at “Scoops & Sweets” only to be there when someone throws a grenade into the shop. Wasn’t it sweet how Chibs (Tommy Flanagan) covered her though?
But that’s not the worst of it: Lin’s (Kenneth Choi) guys got the guns and shot up Diosa Norte, leaving a bloodbath for the MC and Nero to find.
“Charming. Our name says it all. This is a bad place, isn’t it Wayne?” Jarry asks Unser (Dayton Callie). She doesn’t even know the half of it. Remind me how we’re now almost one-third through the final season?
