Plot: SAMCRO and August Marks’ (Billy Brown) feud comes to a head, Juice’s (Theo Rossi) fate is revealed and Gemma (Katey Sagal) fears the worst when she’s summoned to the clubhouse.
Is it just me, or were the peripheral storylines this week a little more confusing than normal? I’m all for story progress, but this episode felt particularly heavy on the sub-plots with a hazy endgame. So I’m not going to harbor on the peripheral characters too much, because too much else happened.
Juice apologies to Jax (Charlie Hunnam), and it’s not made clear what will happen to him – until he gets arrested and taken into custody, part of SAMCRO’s plan to have Juice kill Lin (Kenneth Choi) in prison.
Wendy (Drea de Matteo) warns Abel (Ryder and Evan Londo) about Gemma, saying he’s distant. “He’ll be fine,” Gemma says. She’s gonna regret that, but more on that later. Wendy vows to be there for Gemma when the truth about their helping Juice comes out.
Jax thanks the club for their loyalty to him over the last few weeks despite the chaos.
Meanwhile, Nero (Jimmy Smits) wants to sell his portion of Diosa for a down payment on a farm and wants Gemma to come with him. “I can’t leave my family,” she says. Seriously, Gemma?! So many missed opportunities to get out (not that she should legally, but hey, this is Sons of Anarchy). Also, didn’t Nero start to suspect her re: Tara’s (Maggie Siff) death per Juice?
The MC orchestrates a lie: they lie to the reverend’s wife from a few episodes back to secure her as a witness against August Marks – but they need to get her clean.
“Do you believe in God,” she asks. “What’s important is that you do,” Jax says. At least he didn’t lie in that exact moment. Jax later asks the MC to have Gemma help rehabilitate the woman. The group admits they are afraid of Gemma (as they should be).
Gemma gets word she has to go to the clubhouse and fears Juice has given her up. She goes to her grandchildren (carrying a gun) and picks up the baby. She starts confessing to Tara’s murder! “Sometimes sweetheart, accidents just happen,” she cries. Little does she know Abel hears the WHOLE thing. I honestly thought Abel was about to shoot his grandma, though I’m predicting Abel will eventually shoot someone. It would also tie back with last season’s devastating school shooting, as show creator Kurt Sutter said was the catalyst for the series’ final act.
And just when you thought this episode couldn’t get more intense, Bobby (Mark Boone Junior) gets into a car accident then ambushed by Marks’ men.
Someone delivers a message to Jax and SAMCRO from Marks via a box. Inside is a video of Bobby getting his eye gouged out and the actual eye in tupperware. AH.
So, where do we go from here? Is Bobby dead? Will Abel spill the beans? Will Jax ever learn the truth? These questions and more will (hopefully) have answers as this final season winds down.
