First Time I Saw It: It was at the Oak Tree Road Cineplex in Edison, New Jersey. I was on Christmas break, probably in the sixth grade, and my Dad took me to see it. I remember it being a Saturday afternoon, probably the weekend right after Christmas.
Why I Ranked It So High: It has aged marvelously. Yes, from an aesthetic standpoint it shows its age, but no laughs have died in the 20 years since this film’s release. It’s still highly quotable and those people like me who loved the film then, still love the film as fervently.
Why I Love It: Anchorman is the only other film I can remember seeing in the theater that caused me physical pain from laughing so much. My ribs, eyes, throat and stomach all hurt from the intense laughter this film evoked from me. Even my dad, who had grown up on all the classics and was somewhat of a comedy aficionado, laughed until he cried. The toilet scene with Jeff Daniels made him cry every single time he saw the movie. This is one of the most perfect comedies ever made, no matter how “dumb” it might seem on the surface. –Bill Bodkin
