4. (tie) Sam Smith – In The Lonely Hour
I’ll be the first to admit that I am sick and tired of hearing Sam Smith on my radio. It’s almost inescapable to hear the British crooner on any pop radio station — it’s to the point of super-saturation at this point.
However, when you take away the proclivity for radio to kill a song, I’ll be the first one to admit that Sam Smith has got it. It’s the same it that Adele had a few years ago when she stole our hearts with 21. It’s the heartbreaking working of genius – Smith’s voice and lyrics are just majestic and unforgettable.
So while I could go without hearing “Stay With Me” for the next three years (at least), I cannot give enough props to Smith for the work he put in on In the Lonely Hour.
