My Best Friend’s Wedding (1997)
Is it the the way that Dermot Mulroney and Julia Roberts have a great on-screen chemistry? Is it the quirky acting and storyline? Or could it be the eccentric and unexpected musical number in the middle of a brunch scene? Whatever the case may be, My Best Friend’s Wedding is my go-to guilty pleasure romantic comedy.
Julia Roberts has always been one of my favorite actresses and playing along Dermot Mulroney and Cameron Diaz even compliments her more. Whether it is the bickering back and forth between her best friend Michael (Mulroney) or the pure jealousy that she feels toward Michael’s fiancé Kimmy (Cameron Diaz), it sure is a funny roller coaster to be a part of. The movie isn’t necessarily a masterpiece however it is something that anyone can sit back and enjoy with minimal guilt.
The storyline and acting combined is enough to throw anyone on a whirlwind. Most of the movie is involving Julianne (Roberts) conniving a plan to split up the two love birds the weekend of the wedding with little tactics that she found annoyed the couple along the way. After almost breaking up the couple and causing a ruckus at the rehearsal brunch the day of the wedding, love reigned over all and Michael and Kimmy were happily married. It’s a hilariously witty comedy that one can sit back, shake their head but enjoy at the same time. –Samantha Evans
