Forces of Nature (1999)
In the effort of full disclosure, I must admit that “Forces of Nature” was the only movie that I have ever walked out of.
Although I was first interested in the movie because any type of journalistic character grabs my attention – Ben Affleck plays writer Ben Holmes, who writes the blurbs for hardcover books – and because I do enjoy actress Sandra Bullock playing her usual self in the role of Sarah, my interest waned soon thereafter.
Pre-Final Destination, Forces of Nature takes on a Murphy’s Law-approach of anything that can go wrong will go wrong, as Ben and Sarah must travel together to Georgia after their flight is canceled, while battling various travel and weather delays.
Of course, sparks begin to fly between Ben and Sarah because two people cannot possibly spend time together without there being some sort of attraction. And of course, Ben begins reconsidering his decision to get married because the time with Sarah is clouding his judgment.
Yet going against most Hollywood endings, Ben actually marries his fiance and Sarah is forced to move on with her life, at least according to Wikipedia. I think this Valentine’s Day, I may spend some time watching the move through to the end. — Jennifer Amato
