The WWE-Ek: Smooth Sailing in Calm Waters

week-1024x481

A slow week in the wrestling business. WWE has come off a so-so pay-per-view, however recovered strong with a solid RAW and SmackDown, in addition to an awesome King of the Ring Tournament. I wonder why WWE rushed to put the KOTR on the air so fast. It was announced, a few days later it happened, and now it is over.

What it did allow was for a storyline between Sheamus and Dolph Ziggler to continue forward as well as showcasing Adrian Neville. That guy is awesome. I hope his novelty does not wear out too quickly.

The biggest surprise is seeing Wade Barrett deliver the Bad News Bull Hammer to Neville, and capturing the King of the Ring crown. Will he suddenly change personas like Booker T did? Will it become a joke? Or will it be the sign of a serious push? Keep in mind his reign as Intercontinental Champion was abysmal. I have hope things will turn around.

Speaking of turning, Damien Sandow has turned to some fan-favorite ways, now imitating everyone imaginable on the WWE roster. Perhaps he should be called The Chameleon?  I hope this does not sink. The WWE fanbase embraced the antics while he was a stunt-double for the Miz, and gave what I believe to be a real-deal heartfelt speech on RAW where he thanked the fans for not giving up on him.

Kane and Seth Rollins will inevitably have a full on feud, question is when? With Roman Reigns and Randy Orton to deal with at Payback, it would make sense for Kane to “cash in” and go for the WWE Championship one more time at SummerSlam. Do I think Kane’s days competing are over? Not just yet, he still has something left in the tank. But not much more. Same goes for Mark Henry and Big Show. These guys are the last remnants from the 90’s. It may soon be time for that era to come to a complete end. Hopefully in a good way. I do not count the Undertaker or Sting because they are not regulars anymore. They are the celebrity once-in-a-while novelty.

Daniel Bryan is out. Forever? For now.

The biggest news from Impact Wrestling is the addition of Billy Corgan to their creative writing staff. Yes, this is the very same Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins. Sounds cool, right?

Eric Young has been front-and-center as of late, being booked as a heel, I think, but seems more like the “don’t give a damn” sort of character. I know the whole “Stone Cold” Steve Austin thing worked, but it does not mean everyone needs to incorporate it into a character to be successful.

Over in Global Force Wrestling, rumors are out Jeff Jarrett is going after wrestlers in both Ring of Honor and Impact who have contracts soon to expire. Jim Cornette will be working with GFW in some capacity during their events this coming June.

That’s all for now, I have Avengers: Age of Ultron on the brain so I’m toast.
