This is a movie I had my eye on, but didn’t give it much thought until I saw the trailer. Wow. I’m not sure how great this movie will be, but that trailer certainly grabbed my attention. First off, Will Smith looks fantastic. I’d be shocked if he didn’t get a nomination, but it’s still early. The main reason this instantly became one of my most anticipated movies though is the subject matter. Much like every other American, I’m obsessed with the NFL. The issue of concussions is certainly well known, but when you see it play out in this trailer, it gives you chills. The line by Alec Baldwin “The NFL does not want to talk to you. You turned on the lights and gave their biggest bogeyman a name” especially grabs you. That is a riveting line of dialogue. If this movie lives up to its potential, it could change the way we look at Football. The idea of taking something we hold dear, but letting us in on its darkest corner is a fascinating, yet scary notion. All in all, it makes for a great film. Who knows how much of this is true, or how much they were forced to edit. Nevertheless, it’s a topic people will be interested in. If it gets the word of mouth, and is actually a good movie, it could not only be a huge Oscar contender, but make a ton of money as well.
Oscar Alert! Not a lot of potential right now, but that could change. Will Smith is certainly the strongest contender here.
