92. Dawn of the Dead – 1978
“Screwdriver”
Dawn of the Dead is argurably Romero’s best work in the zombie category, riffing on consumerism in American society and mixing it with bloody goodness (thanks to Tom Savini). The most frightening scene comes when the survivors are running through the mall and happen upon a mannequin set up. As the last survivor runs past it, a zombie, cleverly disgusing himself (as all zombies do) tackles him to the ground. The ensuing struggle is pretty intense and the rest of the party can only stand there and watch the outcome. When all hope seems lost, a screwdriver comes in handy as it’s shoved through the zombie’s head, spewing the reddest of blood all over the floor.
