“The Speech”
Red State is a strange mix of horror, religion and action. Michael Parks is truly terrifying in his role as a preacher who has taken his beliefs too far. After kidnapping three high school students and keeping them captive in his church, Parks begins to give the most hateful sermon, depicting homosexuals, soldiers and drug addicts as the most decrepit and deviant creatures on the planet. The truly scary part of this scene is Parks’ conviction and belief and his followers go along with every word he says. This is topped off with a gay man strapped to a cross and executed via pistol to the head.
