6. Poltergeist II: The Other Side – 1986

This is the saddest story; actor Julian Beck was diagnosed with cancer before filming began but he decided to film this as his last hoorah! I commend him for that because the tragedy brought out a gaunt look in him, making his character, Reverend Henry Kane, look like death. When he makes his way to the Freeling house, carelessly whistling as if he didn’t have a care in the world and greets the family, we don’t know what we’re in for. As he begins to scare the family, they retreat into their house and he appears at the screen door, eyes wild, teeth madly open and gives us a look of sheer terror. Thank you, Mr. Beck, your dedication is appreciated by us all.
