This will be the year that tests people’s tolerance for franchises and shared universes. Marvel. DC. X-Men. Star Trek. Bourne. Ninja Turtles. Harry Potter spin-offs. Ghostbusters. STAR WARS. Holy mother of marketing. I think I saw a group of critics with cyanide capsules. In this melee, it’s impossible for all these movies to be successful. There’s going to be a notable failure. What movie will that be? I have no clue. We’ll also be getting plenty of firsts. 2016 will see DC’s holy trinity on screen together for the first time. Disney will continue to put a strangle hold on the box office with the first ever Star Wars spin-off. Speaking of spin-offs, can J.K. Rowling capture lighting in a bottle twice with a Harry Potter knock off? Female Ghostbusters – will the gamble pay off? We’ll also get our third Spider-Man in the span of fourteen years, and the long awaited return of the greatest comic book villain of all time (Hahahahahah!). A Rated-R X-Men movie?!?! Yup, that’s happening too. Have I built this up enough yet?
I’ve sifted through all the movies. I’ve reflected long enough. While I’m interested to see how the dust settles at the end of the year, it’s all about potential today. Get the nitpicking pen out, and dust off the Jeff Goldblum glasses.
It’s my Top 10 Most Anticipated Movies of 2016!
