8. La La Land

I swear this is the last obscure movie on the list, but I had to include it. There’s not even a trailer or poster yet. It makes the list purely on the director’s name, Damien Chazelle, the man who gave us one of the best movies of the last five years, Whiplash (2014). Add in Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone and a reunion with J.K. Simmons, and that seals the deal. What is it about? Some Jazz pianist falls in love. Could it be forgettable? Maybe. But I doubt my boy Damien will let me down after the masterpiece he delivered a couple years ago.
