7. Ghostbusters
Release Date: July 15th
Starring: Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones
Director: Paul Feig (Spy, Bridesmaids)
If you were to ask me a year ago if this would even sniff my top ten, I’d say it would have to be raining cats and dogs. I’ve never been a fan of the director’s (Paul Feig) work, but Spy changed all that. Feig knows how to deliver hilarious female characters, as well as comedic action. That’s what we need to make this new Ghostbusters a winner. This movie has a lot of hurdles. Not only does it have baggage with the whole female Ghostbusters hoopla, but you’re playing in the same sand box as one of the most popular movies ever made. Ghostbusters is sacred to a lot of film fans, and if this isn’t great, Paul Feig is going to get eviscerated. I don’t envy Feig, and I don’t envy the pressure on this cast. I expect a first trailer very soon, and then we’ll know more. Will this be as good as the original? No, but that’s asking too much. I’m going on record right now and predicting a resounding success.
