What better way to fuel the fire on the inevitable inferiority of the new Ghostbusters, as I remind everyone how brilliant the original is. Okay, that was a cheap shot.
Forget about the new Ghostbusters for now though. I really just wanted to write this as an excuse to watch Ghostbusters again. What makes Ghostbusters work so well is that it takes a massive concept like ghosts opening a portal to another dimension, but seamlessly grounds it to a run of the mill screwball comedy. That’s the genius of Ghostbusters. A big part of that grounding is the pristine dialogue. These are the types of comedic lines comedy writers dream about conjuring up. Not only are the lines funny on paper, but guys like Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts, and Rick Moranis elevate them to a level of timelessness. Their timing and delivery are a thing of beauty. That’s why coming up with the Top 10 Lines From Ghostbusters is as complicated as a Sumerian god of destruction. There’s no doubt you’ll disagree with some of the choices, but it speaks to how many damn good lines there are:

“Ok, so…she’s a dog.”
“where do these stairs go?”
“They go up”
Those are pretty good. Winston’s line “This job is definitely not worth eleven-five a year” was a near miss.
