Director: Tate Taylor (Get on Up, The Help)
Pre-Trailer Thoughts: Having not read the book or even heard of this movie until now, I’m going in completely blind for this one. In some ways I might be at an advantage, since I have no frame of reference to judge how good or bad the movie could be in comparison to the book. – JTM
Rate the Trailer: 2 out of 5. What seemed like the heir apparent to Gone Girl at the start of the trailer appeared more like a generic erotic thriller by the end. Perhaps that’s to be expected since this is from the director of the middling The Help and Get On Up rather than the man who gave us The Social Network and Zodiac. The choice of Kanye West’s “Heartless” seems tonally off from the rest of the trailer, as the auto-tuned vocals don’t mesh well with the vibe the trailer was aiming for. At the very least Emily Blunt might do a good job as I’ve always enjoyed her performances, but nothing else really seems to draw me in. If it weren’t for the big names and Hollywood production values, you could have mistaken this for a Lifetime Original Movie. – JTM
Theater, Rent, Undecided, No Thanks? No Thanks. Fans of the book might want to check this out, but as someone who hasn’t I’m perfectly fine just staying home and watching Gone Girl again. – JTM
