In an interview with Deadline, president and GM of BBC America discussed the finale of Orphan Black and what’s next for Doctor Who. But what was most eye catching was the confirmation of Kevin Smith’s involvement in a series based on Spawn supporting characters Sam and Twitch.
“He is attached to write, direct and executive producer a series based on the Sam And Twitch comic book series for us,”
This is particularly exciting as any recent attempt at adapting Spawn or its respective properties to TV or film have been lost to media purgatory. Todd McFarlane announced his plans to make a Sam and Twitch TV series as far back as 2010. On top of this, McFarlane had been in a decades long legal entanglementwith Neil Gaiman over the rights to make a new Spawn film.
“They were originally introduced in Spawn, and it’s Todd McFarlane’s comic book series about these big-city homicide detectives who face a series of super grizzly crimes that are connected to the occult,” Barnett adds. “I bumped into Kevin Smith at Sundance and he is beyond himself excited about this, about the show,”
It’s both relieving and exhilarating that a famed comic book aficionado such as Kevin Smith is tackling the project. Smith who gained notoriety for his raunchy films has been recently very active on the television scene, specifically on the CW’s The Flash. Check out the full Deadline interview here.
