‘The One Who Will Save Us All’ Plot Summary:

Coulson (Clark Gregg) and Talbot (Adrian Pasdar) board the Confederacy spaceship to renegotiate the Confederacy’s deal with Hydra.

Just when I said last week that Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was mirroring Avengers: Infinity War by presenting its own separate alien apocalypse, it reveals this week it actually is connected to Infinity War. That’s not to say that you should expect the show do go all #ItsAllConnected mode like previous seasons, but expect more tie-ins in the next couple weeks. It’s honestly crazy to wonder how this show could possible pull off linking with Infinity War when the threats of Thanos completing the Infinity Gauntlet and Daisy (Chloe Bennet) cracking the Earth apart still seem so separate. All I can say is we’ll see.

Besides the big tie-in reveal, General Talbot rules this week’s episode. His character arc is astounding. He’s gone from a mostly unimportant, sometimes goofy side-character to arguably the most important character on the show. Not only that, he’s done so in the course of a few weeks. While part of me still doesn’t find him intimidating because come on, it’s Talbot in a silly alien garb, the other part finds his presence unsettling.

I’m not exaggerating when I say the things that Talbot does in this episode are nuts. Threatening the Confederacy is one thing, but he cold-bloodedly offs characters without a second thought. Even though Hale (Catherine Dent) deserves better, her death is the natural end to her narrative. She completes her purpose in this episode. The brutality of her death makes me wonder how Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. got it past the censors.

Coulson is facing death from all sides now. The Confederacy will kill him at the first chance it gets, he’s still dying, and Talbot makes a demonstration of what his Gravitionium powers will do to Coulson if he upsets the General. Let’s hope that Coulson can save Talbot and repair their friendship before it’s too late. Coulson will presumably want to say goodbye to Talbot if Daisy’s harebrained scheme doesn’t save him. Coulson can’t do that if Talbot kills him or he dies prematurely.

Two more episodes left and the pieces are set to bring about the destruction of the Earth. But who will do it, Talbot or Daisy? It would be a shame for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. to come this far, with an episode this good, and botch the finale.

Rating: 8.5 out of 10 (Great)
