The trailer has finally dropped! Halloween is easily the most anticipated horror film of 2018 and, judging by the trailer, the hype is deserved. It has been nine years since Michael Myers graced the screen in Rob Zombie’s Halloween II, one of the most hated Halloween films in the series, so it is very important to the fans that this film is respectful to the original film.
A quick rundown of Halloween 2018’s plot: It has been 40 years since that fateful Halloween night back in 1978 when Laurie Strode was attacked by a masked escaped lunatic. Her friends were all murdered, but she managed to escape. That night, she was taken to the hospital only to be attacked, once again, by the same killer. The doctors and nurses weren’t very lucky, but Laurie managed to survive, yet again. The killer, Michael Myers, was shot and taken into custody where he has remained until his recent escape. Again, Michael is determined to kill Laurie Strode, but he does not realize that she has not only been expecting him, she has been preparing for war.
Let’s break down this trailer.
A man, perhaps a reporter, is investigating the escape and arrest of Michael Myers in 1978. He somehow manages to get an interview with Michael, where he shows him the mask he wore all of those years ago. To me, it seems like an awful idea to taunt a serial killer like that, but I digress. Inevitably, Michael escapes and goes on another killing spree to get his mask back, which he obviously does.
There is a scene where Laurie’s granddaughter is walking with her friends and one asks her “Wasn’t it her brother who murdered all of those babysitters?” to which she reply’s “No, it was not her brother, that’s something that people made up.” So, has the story changed or has Laurie not admitted to her own family yet that Michael is her brother?
We see Laurie practicing her shooting, which looks pretty amazing to me. I guess after 40 years, she would have to be a dead eye by now.
The sheriff asks Laurie “What did you do that for?” and she replies “So I can kill him.” Maybe Laurie helped him escape. After 40 years, maybe she just couldn’t take the waiting any longer. Maybe she wanted to make sure her family would be safe if she died.
There are trick or treating kids in Halloween 3 masks!
The bathroom scene is reminiscent of Halloween H20 when the mother and daughter have their car stolen. Perhaps they did a little throw back since we are supposed to pretend that every Halloween after part 2 (1981) did not exist.
There is already more blood in this trailer than in the Suspiria one. Let that sink in.
The closet scene…..oh my god, that closet scene. It gave me goosebumps!
I had my doubts about this. I hate that I had doubts about this because I am a huge Halloween fan, but seeing the trailer today has restored my faith. October cannot come soon enough!
