Pop Break Live: Dispatch at The Stone Pony Summer Stage in Asbury Park, NJ
Photos by Kim Wessels
It’s a night a lot of Asbury Park music lovers never expected — Dispatch performing as a full band at The Stone Pony Summer Stage.
Sure, we had seen lead singer Chadwick Stokes Urmston perform with his band State Radio at various venues around Asbury, Brad Corrigan aka Braddigan had to have played the area (correct us if we’re wrong internet!), and only a few years ago Pete Francis brought his band to The Wonder Bar.
However after the band’s iconic “farewell” show in Boston, coupled with their sporadic touring in and around the area (closest being Red Bull Stadium for a few years back) — it seemed like seeing Dispatch in AP would be a dream.
Well, the dream came true on July 20 as Dispatch rolled into The Stone Pony Summer Stage with opening act Nahko and the Medicine for the People.
The show featured a 15 song set with two encores, and yes the mega favorites, “The General,” and “Bats in the Belfry” were played loud and proud.
Our photographer on site, Kim Wessels, reported that this was easily one of the best live shows she’s shot, and possibly attended ever. Not a small compliment from an avid concert-goer. You can view her photos below.
