John is back, and the third installment looks totally Wick-ed!!!
The trailer for John Wick Chapter 3 — Parabellum struck all of us today like a pencil to the brain. The action series starring Keanu Reeves has given the former Neo his biggest hits in years due to its gritty yet stylish blend of fistfights and gun-play. And this latest sequel (which may or may not be the final film in the series) looks to be multiplying that action like never before.
Appearing to pick up almost exactly where Chapter 2 left off, Keanu’s title hit man is officially now “excommunicado” and has a $14 million bounty on his head. It’s open season on Mr. Wick, and all the assassins and contract killers of this criminal underworld are coming after him. Anyone who’s seen these movies knows that John is a true one-man army, but is this too much even for him?!
The trailer showed glimpses of the action we’ve come to expect from this popular series. The eternally young-looking Reeves seems to be in fine form yet again, doing his own stunts. John is punching, shooting, and getting around by car, motorcycle, and even by horse. We also got fleeting moments of returning cast members Laurence Fishburne, Ian McShane, Lance Reddick….and yes, even John’s loyal and faithful Dog With No Name!
New cast members Angelica Huston and Halle Berry were in the trailer as well, and are apparently set to make splashy debuts in the Wick-iverse! Not much is known yet about their mysterious characters, but it’s fair to say they will play important parts in the story. Huston’s trailer time was brief, but Berry looks to be providing some much-needed assistance to our beloved Baba Yaga (aka Boogeyman).
Personally, I just hope Berry doesn’t completely dominate the film. Reeves is far from the best actor in the world, but these movies have always utilized his strengths as an action star, and he has single-handedly carried this franchise with ease.
John Wick Chapter 3 — Parabellum will arrive closer to the summer. But judging by the trailer, it looks worth the wait for devoted fans. Keanu almost certainly has another hit on his blood-soaked hands. And if you disagree with that, you don’t know Wick!
