Stranger Things Season 3 Episode 3 ‘The Case of the Missing Lifeguard’ Review

‘The Case of the Missing Lifeguard’, much like the first two episodes of the season,  carries on toward a very strong new season.

‘The Case of the Missing Lifeguard’ does a phenomenal job of covering multiple subplots that will eventually tie in together later on. I think my favorite new character is Robin, as she is the most fascinating in terms of personality and how she fits into the story with Steve and Dustin trying to crack the Russian code. Will has been considered by most to be the best kid character in the series and he is also fantastic again in this one. Hopper and Joyce are always a joy to see and even El and Max have a fun, yet spooky subplot that brings forth more intrigue.

My favorite part might be how the returning characters have been continually evolving and struggling through the changes and challenges that accompany the wonderful new surprises by life.

When it comes to the Duffer Brothers and director Shawn Levy, they are continually cranking out top-notch content. The way the show is crafted and executed from a visual and storytelling perspective meets no rival in terms of television. Between the seamless transitions, heartfelt character moments, humor, and thrilling action, there is no moment that fails to engage and invest the viewer. This season and show is that good.

While I believe this is the best show on television, partially thanks to the artistic and creative freedom given to the cast and crews by Netflix, there are a few very minor details that hold me back from declaring perfection. Only having eight episodes to tell this story feels a little too short.

Maybe it is just because I don’t want the season to end, but everything feels like it is moving fairly quickly and almost unrealistically. My only other nitpick is in regards to the lack of group scenes together, especially the core group of boys without Dustin.

Despite my incredibly minor nitpicking, this season and show is on track to be a raging success and the surprises in the last half of the episode really gets the ball rolling.

Rating: 9.5 / 10
