Jennifer Lopez, Shakira Put on One Hell of a Pepsi Halftime Show

Jennifer Lopez and Shakira put on one hell of a Pespi Halftime Show.

Last year, we got treated to Maroon 5 sleepwalking through an absolutely dreadful performance. It was a lifeless rehash of their greatest hits. In years past we’ve seen a lot of spectacular hot messes remembered for random things (we’re looking at you Katy Perry and Left Shark), and it’s rare we get a damn good spectacle.

J-Lo and Shakira did just that.

The makings of a great halftime show is one in which the performer(s) transcend genre (while remaining true to what brought them to the dance) and put a tap in the step of whomever’s watching. And yeah, if you didn’t know who Bad Bunny or J Balvin were, it didn’t matter. This was the perfect example of music just surpassing everything. This was the universal language. This was fun. This was spectacle. This was what you want in a Superbowl halftime show.

And it didn’t matter if you put your faith in guitar-driven rock, or were someone who still celebrates disco — J-Lo and Shakira curated hits that anyone can get behind, and dance too. Let’s face it, it doesn’t matter if Metallica is your favorite band, you’ve found yourself dancing to “Hips Don’t Lie” or “Waiting for Tonight.” You’ve been to a wedding, these songs are legit bangers — drop your pretensions.

Listen, if we get these two singing at next year’s show, I’m here for it. Hell, let’s get some collabs while we’re at it! A big salute to both Jennifer Lopez and Shakira from being the perfect Halftime show for a damn good Superbowl.
