Prodigal Son is a crime drama that airs on FOX (but can also be streamed on Hulu) created by Chris Fedak (Chuck) and Sam Sklaver (Deception).

The series follows criminal profiler, Malcolm Bright (Tom Payne, The Walking Dead) as he consults with the NYPD on cases involving serial killers. This is his unfortunate area of expertise due to his own father (Michael Sheen, Frost/Nixon) being an infamous serial killer known as, “The Surgeon.”

Like most crime dramas, it has a new case every week but what makes Prodigal Son stand out is its focus on killer psychology and the trauma/struggle of Malcolm’s entire family. Years after the initial events, they are still dealing with the repercussions of Malcolm’s father’s crimes.

As a crime/detective genre fan, I knew I’d like the show, but I absolutely fell in love with the characters. They all have great development and play important roles. It’s a show that hits all the marks: interesting new cases, great cast of characters, and a unique overarching plot that keeps you hooked from Episode 1.
