Just when we thought the coast was clear to turn off our hopeless romantic valves and to put away those boxes of tissue and tear-stained pillows; Netflix does it again with another reality series, that’s guaranteed to make you a believer of love, hope, and purpose.

Say I Do is not just another show on weddings where the couples are whisked away on an all-expense-paid honeymoon as they profess their love for each other. No ma’am! This has completely defied all of the stereotypes of wedding shows and will make you want to run out to find your forever person.

From the producer and creator of Queer Eye for The Straight Guy, David Collins has fashioned a journey centered around eight couples who offer unique stories of the heart, where not one of the narratives are the same. These couples are either already married, looking to get engaged, or just plain ole shacking up, and have been granted the wedding of a lifetime provided by their fairy Godfathers; Interior designer Jeremiah Brent, fashion designer Thai Nguyen, and Chef Gabriele Bertaccini. But here’s the gag … the wedding takes place in a matter of days.

In the first episode, we’re introduced to Marcus, a doting father and husband to his wife, Tiffany and their daughter Elle. Marcus is hoping to uplift his forever bride’s spirits with her dream wedding. The couple’s original wedding day was a complete disaster; filled with family drama, and a fire! They even snapped a couple of wedding shots in front of the fire truck. Unfortunately, the heartbreak doesn’t end there. Tiffany also lost her father and sister within an eight-month period; sending her onto an emotional roller coaster that no one wants to ride. So, he proposes to her in the park while hand-in-hand with Elle, asking if she’d marry him again. (Of course, she says yes! This wouldn’t be a show if she didn’t).

The fairy Godfathers followed Marcus’ direction by making sure to include the most intricate of details that would bring joy to Tiffany, such as her sister’s favorite color and her dad’s favorite saying. They even commemorate her loved ones with a special memorial to which she stated she’d bring the couple’s daughter as a way of keeping the family’s memory alive.

Episode two is equally as tender. In this episode, we meet the blended family of Michael and Alex who, while expecting their first child together, have custody of Michael’s nephews, Josh – 10 and Travis – 12. After dating for nearly eight years, Alex is deserving of this moment since she’s taken care of everyone else’s needs over her own, Michael plans to propose and throw Alex her carnival themed wedding she’s dreamt about. However, since they purchased their first home, money has been tight for the couple, making it impossible for Michael to afford the cost of the engagement ring of his choice. Once again, the fairy Godfathers come to the rescue with a beautiful ring to complete their moment in time that Alex will surely look back on and smile.

Next, we have Niko and Amber in episode three. From the moment he laid eyes on her in college, it was love at first sight, and he knew that Amber was going to be his Queen. However, as life happened, the two were involved in different relationships; with his producing two sons – Amir and Nasir. But as the rainbows and unicorns formed an opening for Amber, Niko was able to shoot his shot making a direct hit into Amber’s heart, creating an opportunity for them to put their relationship first. Fast forward three years, and the two have endured a great deal. Amber had one of her ovaries removed, creating and losing a baby only after 12 weeks, while Niko was asked to take full custody of his boys. Miraculously, as Amber steps to the plate as stepmother, she becomes pregnant yet again, and gives birth to their son Yahnis.

Just like the previous couples, Niko is determined to gift Amber the wedding of her dreams; one fit for a King and Queen. Regrettably, with their family struggling financially, Niko can’t afford to buy her a ring. Now go ahead and queue our fairy Godfather Jeremiah, as he waves his magic wand and produces a selection of rings for Niko to choose from. Needless to say, their regal wedding went on without a hitch, and was definitely one for the books.

I honestly thought this was going to be a cheesy show where boy meets girl, girl finds a dress, and they ride off into the sunset in a horse-drawn carriage. Boy was I wrong! Say I Do is a tear jerking and thoughtful series that forces you to believe in second chances. Just when you thought life couldn’t get any harder, this show reveals that little trinkets of splendor can be dropped into your lap, producing an atmosphere of joy, happiness, and positive vibes.

Oh, and if Netflix greenlights a second season, Kleenex will be forced to stay in business because the tears will continue to roll!

Say I Do is currently streaming on Netflix.
