2020 in the entertainment industry continues to be absolutely wild. This morning, the 2020 Emmy Nominees were announced and there were plenty of surprises (both good and bad) and one thing we all knew — HBO’s drama Succession was going to dominate the noms.
The 72nd Emmy Awards will be broadcast on Sept. 20 on ABC starting at 8 p.m. Jimmy Kimmel hosts.
We will be discussing the 2020 Emmy Nominees on the TV Break podcast hosted by TV Editor Alex Marcus and regular panelists Josh Sarnecky and Bill Bodkin. However, we’d be remiss in not bringing up a few things:
- The Mandalorian getting nominated for Best Drama is a huge surprise. Science fiction often has a difficult time breaking into this category, but here we are. Disney+’s first original series ever brings home a nom.
- But don’t get your hopes up. Mando is only nominated for series, there’s no acting nominations for the show. While it’ll rack up effects trophies at the Creative Arts Emmys, it’s not taking home the big W.
- Succession will. It’s got all the big ticket nominations, the audience and critical support.
- It’s shocking that Pose landed one major nomination (for Billy Porter). Nothing for Best Drama. Nothing for any of the actresses. Really the big shock of the noms.
- Rhea Seahorn getting snubbed for Better Call Saul is also staggering. She’s putting in great work, and no nom.
