Pop Break Live: The Revivalists “Into the Stars” Tour with The Record Company at The Excite Center at Parx Casino in Bensalem, PA – April 2, 2022
The Revivalists, the eight-piece ensemble out of New Orleans brought their wildly exciting (pun very much intended) “Into the Stars” Tour to The Excite Center at Parx Casino in Bensalem, PA on Saturday April 2.
They brought along Grammy nominated band The Record Company, a band hot off their 2021 release Play Loud, to fire up this sold-out crowd and they did just that. Having seen The Record Company before at some of the bigger shows in the area, like the XPoNential Music Festival and WMMR’s yearly BBQ, I knew they couldn’t have chose a better band to get this party started.
The Revivalists have been grinding it for over 15 years with their unique uplifting sound and had this sold out crowd on their feet within minutes of starting the show. The stage setup was stunning! It was a back lit stage with purples, blues, yellow’s and reds that had a huge heart in the middle with lightening bolts inside. The band came out with an EP in January of 2020, Made In Muscle Shoals, which included some rearranged versions of their most popular songs like “All My Friends” and “Wish I knew You,” and those versions got some of the biggest responses from the crowd during their set.
The band played for over 90 minutes and charismatic frontman David Shaw was all over the stage during their set. His energy was boundless and his chemistry with the crowd was unmatched from anything I’ve seen in a very long time! If he wasn’t bouncing around the stage he was upfront and personal with the crowd. At one point he sat on the edge of the stage, feet dangling and sang as fans moved closer to the stage. There were some handshakes and some simple gestures like pointing to a fan and making eye contact. Those lucky ones were beaming.
The musicians in this band are stellar, every single one of them. I never saw duel drummers perform before and boy did it jack up the intensity on some of the songs. Some of the highlights during their set were “It Was A Sin” and “Fade Away” but one that really stood out was their cover of Neil Young’s classic “My My, Hey Hey” which had an extended jam and the place pretty much went nuts.
This was truly an amazing show. It was a long time coming for many fans as the original show had been rescheduled. You could just tell these fans were there to just let loose. They literally stood the entire night. There were many sing-alongs and “hand in he air” songs during the night .This is what you call a true feel good show. It couldn’t have been any better!
