Socially Distanced #124: Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Review

Thanks for checking this post! If you can, please subscribe to the Socially Distanced Podcast on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Anchor, and Google Podcasts as we drop on our new day — Fridays! And while you’re there if you can give us a rate and review that’d be awesome!

The Socially Distanced Podcast is a podcast hosted by two pop culture obsessed dads who were stuck in quarantine and decided to take their Facebook messenger conversations and turn them into a podcast.

Join hosts Al Mannarino and Bill Bodkin as they discuss everything in the world movies, music, sports, television and pop culture — everything keeping them sane in this time of socially distancing. This podcast is powered by ThePopBreak.com.

Now onto the show…

Socially Distanced makes its return to Middle-Earth! In this episode host Bill Bodkin is joined by Alex “The Grey” Marcus — the wizard of all things podcast on Pop Break and Rachel Freeman — The Galadriel of The Pop Break (aka Comic Books and Anime Editor) to discuss Amazon Prime Video’s high-priced new series, Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power.

In the episode we discuss our relationship with Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy (yay!) and his Hobbit trilogy (booooo) and how that impacted our anticipation for Rings of Power. Other topics discussed includes the set design and visuals of the series, the return of Elrond (Robert Aramayo)  and Galadriel (Morfydd Clark), as well as new characters Nori (Markella Kavenagh), Bronwyn (Nazanin Boniadi), Arondir (Ismael Cruz Córdova)and more. They discuss the “stranger” and if he just might be a wizardly character, the disconnect with some of the stories, the controversy over non-white characters in the series (spoilers:  that controversy is stupid), and so much more.
