And just like that … the three New York City gal pals are back for And Just Like That…Season 2.
Between all of the drama revolving around the series, it seems like people haven’t stopped discussing And Just Like That… since its first season which ended back in February 2022.
And Just Like That … Season 2 welcomes viewers with a more genuine cast. The OG crew — Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Charlotte (Kristin Davis), and Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) remain central characters — but screen time is more evenly divided between them and their friends — Seema (Sarita Choudhury), Lisa (Nicole Ari Parker), Che (Sara Ramirez), and Nya (Karen Pittman) — who all debuted last season. The first two episodes, currently streaming on MAX, set the stage for a more vigorous story line for all of these characters, as well as their friendships growing stronger.
This season finds Miranda in Los Angeles supporting Che and their career, while Carrie and Charlotte take charge in New York City. Carrie’s mourning period for Mr. Big (Chris Noth) has ended and she’s finally ready for something casual, while Charlotte continues to deal with the never-ending responsibilities that come with being a mother.
If you were wondering whether the producer Carrie kissed in the elevator at the very end of season one had still stuck around, you wondered right — but he only stays for a little bit. Franklyn (Ivan Hernandez) is the casual thing Carrie was looking for after John/Mr. Big passed away. Carrie has a situation with Franklyn and doesn’t want nor care for advice from her close besties as she already knows what they will say. Instead, she turns to Che, since they also worked with Franklyn. This is a pivotal scene in the show, where Che provides Carrie with advice about relationships, as Che is in one herself with Miranda. Che and Miranda’s relationship has become more serious since last season.
The fabulously brilliant thing about Sex and The City, before And Just Like That…, is how it solidified the four lead characters into archetype — the sex bomb being Carrie, the romantic being Charlotte, the ego being Samantha, and the cynical Miranda — and somehow still made them feel relatable and lovable. It did so to the point where some individuals saw themselves as these characters.
And Just Like That… still manages to keep that concept alive in some ways more than others. One reason it lacks connection is because Samantha is no longer with the three girls. Back in Season One it was mentioned that Samantha is living in London, although it was confirmed that she will be joining this season — if only for a little bit. Since Miranda moved to Los Angeles with Che, she left behind Carrie, and not to mention her son, while Charlotte, being the last of Carrie’s original friends, takes in the different manners of comic relief and voice of reason. A show based on friendship between four female friends in a way came to an end.
Even though it might not seem right to some fans, And Just Like That… gives the idea of connection and friendship a second chance, showing us how important it is that these women still exist in each other’s lives. Whether it’s texts to Carrie from Samatha, calls to Carrie from Miranda, or hangouts with Carrie and Charlotte, they all manage to still keep in touch no matter what happens in their busy lives. In this world of friends, fashion, and cosmopolitans, everything is seen as fabulous, even if it isn’t to others.
And Just Like That… is now streaming on Max.
