The Kimmy Top 5 List: Conventions, Commentary, Interviews, Media Scrums & More

Hi there fellow reader. When Pop Break’s editor-in-chief Bill Bodkin came out with his Pop 5 column a couple of months ago I thought it was a nice way to highlight his favorite things throughout the month. While I was thinking of a way to truly highlight all of the cool things I did throughout the year, I thought this was the perfect way to showcase that, so as usual thank you, Bill. I am going to put my spin on this however, so let’s dedicate this piece to the eight-year-old kid who had a dream to get into this business in the first place.

Dear eight-year-old Kimmy,

You wouldn’t believe all the cool things you did this year. First off you graduated college which was a surprise to so many people, in fact, you were the only female to graduate with a Sports Media degree, you always have to make some form of history. More importantly, you took your wrestling career seriously. We did interviews, traveled the world, made friends with wrestlers, the list goes on, let me explain: 

So, We Were on Media Scrums:

Earlier this year we weren’t so lucky. We applied for credentials for Wrestlemania and Supercard of Honor and we didn’t get in. We didn’t give up though and we were able to go on three different scrums in three different states. We started in New Jersey in the same arena you graduated college in with Death Before Dishonor. We may have made Athena cry while also asking Tony Khan about the future of ROH Tapings. From there we went to Chicago for All Out we asked Adam which tag teams he wanted to defend his titles against and Tony Khan what was next for ROH. At the end of the month, we went to Madison Square Garden to cover the WWE’s annual Holiday Tour and we are back home for Worlds End and who knows what is going to happen there. There are also a lot of wrestlers excited that you are finally media-approved, which is crazy. We get to stand in there with so many top wrestling media personnel and we hold our own, even if we are the youngest and shortest person in the room…

Oh, the Places We Went: 

This year wrestling has brought us to work in eight different states. From New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania Maryland, Florida, California, Indiana, and North Carolina. For a bonus, wrestling brought us for a quick little vacation in Nevada to go Double or Nothing. We worked with headliners, worked our first solo signing, caused a lot of chaos, got pushed around, got three trading cards, and worked with one of the top agents in the wrestling world. That is right, we went Prime Time this year, which led to so many people taking you more seriously and led you to travel more and work the biggest convention in New York, did I mention the golf cart trip we took around the con? Our convention work has led us to do all of these cool things and have wrestlers request to work with us, doctors orders I guess? They respect us as much as we respect them as you worked with 40 different talents and 13 different promoters this year. Guess we are more than just a mark now aren’t we?

We Watched 40 Shows In Person: 

We did see a lot of wrestling this year. We saw the first-ever women’s main event in ROH history, both nights of Wrestlemania, a lot of AEW Dynamites, and we watched the WWE HOF and Smackdown in a private suite. We saw Jay White make his AEW debut, Ric Flair shock the world and become All Elite, Impact reach 1,000 episodes, Eddie Kingston wins ROH gold, Carlito’s last match before he went back to WWE, Swerve Strickland vs Mike Bailey and a hell of a lot more. Grateful to be able to be invited to these shows and to witness so much history in one calendar year.

Of Course, We Made Our Commentary Debut: 

We achieved the childhood dream on February 25th! I guess learning all about the Last Lecture during our senior year of high school paid off. Finally, after 12 and a half years, we made our commentary debut on an all-women’s show. Now we get to do it monthly for Warriors of Wrestling. That is right at 22 years old we achieved our childhood dream not too many people can say that they did that, but we can. Bad times may not last, but dreams do come true!

And Now My Guest At This Time: 

Short story time. When we revealed to our high school track coach that we had anxiety, the one thing we all decided to change was setting goals for ourselves. We noticed that when we set a goal for ourselves and we did not achieve it we had severe anxiety about it so we didn’t set goals for ourselves for a very long time, well until this year. The one goal we set for this year was to interview Dr. Britt Baker, and we didn’t know how, when, or why, but it was going to happen and it did the week before we worked with her in California. This interview became the most segregated interview in the history of this site and was covered by many wrestling news outlets. Britt was not the only one we interviewed though. We got our minion number when we interviewed Athena, solidified ourselves as a baddie when we interviewed Leila Grey, as well as 19 other interviews you have done throughout the year. Too bad Dexter Obsidian still thinks you are a muppet…

Now eight-year-old Kimmy, I do not know what is next for us in 2024, but all I know is the sky’s the limit. You fought for 13 years for this wrestling dream to come true and you have been able to do more than you have ever imagined. Maybe the American Dragon was right, if you fight for your dreams your dreams will fight for you. To everyone who has helped me in 2023, thank you for everything all of this happened because of you, and I can not wait to see what I can accomplish in 2024, for now keep on making a name for yourself Kimmy, you’re doing so many great things I am proud of you.
