Review: Destro #2

I didn’t entirely see this coming.

Based on events from last issue, it appears Destro will square off against the manipulative twins in Tomax and Xamot, otherwise known as the “Crimson Twins of Extensive Enterprises.” Last issue they got to show off their elite squad of Crimson Guardsmen. In Destro #2 they show off their arsenal of firepower against Laird Destro, in what becomes a contest of who has the bigger gun.

This contest mind you, seems to have an unclear origin. Whilst Destro sees firsthand evidence of the machinations belonging to the Crimson Twins, a mirrored panel shows they believe this to be an act of self-sabotage and theatrics. Each side believes the other to be the antagonist, and thus responds in kind.

Nearly the entirety of Destro #2 sees many familiar vehicles and armaments, which collectors or children who played with these familiar toys during the eighties and nineties will fondly remember. Every few pages the next major weapon is brought out, with casualties and wreckage mounting.

Finally the two sides agree to meet and as you will read, come to a tenuous agreement. The final pages sees Destro meditating amongst his ancestors, only to find he is not alone.

Undoubtedly this intended to have some serious tones in regards to how each one constantly would attempt to one-up the other. However, this felt like an unexpectedly fun issue. Come on, the little kid in us has got to love more vehicles, aircraft, rockets, and the like just blowing each other up like something concocted in our childish imaginations. I liked it. Did you?

Destro #2 is now available at comic book stores everywhere.
