Blade Runner Sequels Adds Oscar Nominee Barkhad Abdi

The untitled Blade Runner sequel has added a Oscar nominee Barkhad Abdi to it’s ever-expanding A-List cast. The Somali-American actor is best known for his performance as Abduwali Muse in the Tom Hanks-starring film Captain Phillips. Abdi scored multiple nominations from critics across the board, and took home a BAFTA for his performance.

Abdi will join the cast of the sequel scheduled for a 2017 — 35 years after it’s 1982 release. The film will be produced by Frank Giustra and Tim Gamble, the CEOs of Thunderbird Films, and the film’s original producer and director, Ridley Scott (Alien, The Martian).

The film will be directed by Dennis Villeneuve, the man behind Prisoners and Sicario. The sequel is written by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green. Fancher was part of the original writing team for Blade Runner, while Green is a veteran of numerous TV shows including the soon-to-be-released TV adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s American Gods. The plot of the film has not been released as of this posting.

The cast of the new film will include Harrison Ford reprising his role of Rick Deckard. A new star-studded cast includes: Ryan Gosling, Mackenzie Davis (The Martian, Halt & Catch Fire), Robin Wright (House of Cards), the gorgeous An de Armas (Knock Knock), former WWE champion Dave Bautista, and two captivating European actress/models, Sylvia Hoeks and Carla Juri.

The yet-to-be-titled Blade Runner sequel is scheduled to hit theaters on October 7, 2017
